Reference: BL-30500044
Kumquat, better known as "Chinese mandarin" or vulgarly "fortunella margarita", is a small fruit tree, ideal for growing in pot due to its small size.
A fruit at hand with Kumquat. It is an ideal fruit tree for urban contexts: easy, ornamental, productive.
The kumquat (Citrus japonica) belongs to the botanical family of the Rutaceae, that is the citrus family. A salient feature of kumquat, which differentiates it from other citrus fruits, is that the peel is also often edible. The fruit, being small, is eaten in its entirety. It is very pleasant to the taste, as it leaves a double sensation on the palate, the sweet one of the peel and the acid of the pulp. Inside, among other things, there are few seeds, not very hard. It can therefore be easily cultivated by even the most inexperienced. Furthermore, as it is not as delicate as other citrus fruits, it can be planted anywhere, not only in the South. Despite its size, it manages to be very productive; in fact, few plants are enough to obtain many fruits.
TREATMENT: The difference from other citrus fruits is resistance to cold. Given its small size, kumquat is perfect for growing in pots, therefore also on a balcony. It prefers little sunny or semi-shaded places, sheltered from strong winds. Be careful not to keep the plant indoors, especially near heating, you could cause damage to it.
