Splendid and particular decorates all the interiors giving joy and lightheartedness. Aucuba is a plant very resistant that lends itself to being grown both indoors and outdoors.

There Aucuba japonica is a shrub evergreen native to the Asian continent, especially Japan.

The feature of this plant is to be dioecious that is, it has male and female flowers not on the same plant, therefore fertilization cannot take place except through the wind or insects.

Place it somewhere in the house away from too strong currents or heat sources not higher than 20 ° C loves the constant and temperate climate and with little attention it will give you the best of itself. It is very durable and does not fear the cold, kept outdoors, in the ground and in the garden, it can withstand temperatures even of fifteen degrees below zero, during the very cold winters keep it in a sheltered place. Its resistance is unique even in the city, it bears very polluted environments where other plants would not make it. The only precaution you must have is not to expose the plant to full sun during the hottest hours, its leaves tend to burn. It is a marvel for the eyes, in fact its growth is rapid and thick and can reach up to 3 m in height. The branches and the stem are bright green and the leaves are large in the shape of an elongated spear, they can even reach a length of seven centimeters.

The Aucuba it blooms from April to May, in small and green flowers, they grow together in panicles and during the winter they are replaced by beautiful and decorative red berries which last many months and give a lot of joy. Its seeds reach maturity between October and February.

Upon arrival, repot it in a ground suitable, deep and rich in humus, acidic and very well drained in order to to avoid the formation of water stagnation very harmful to her. It is able to withstand even dry soils and periods of drought. Fix it a partial shade outside and in a place of home bright and cool if inside. If you grow it in pots, indoors, clean the leaves with a damp cloth to avoid the formation of dust that would make the plant suffer; when the temperatures are pleasant place the Aucuba outside. Fertilize it with a liquid fertilizer in spring and summer while in the cold season do not continue with this operation.

Aucuba needs to be watered abundantly in the summer, always let the soil dry before proceeding with a new watering, in winter reduce the water supply. Eliminate dry leaves to make room for the plant to grow.

CURIOSITY'

The Aucuba was brought to Europe by John Goefer, a botanist who understood that he had only imported plants with female flowers and therefore could not obtain their reproduction; only fifty years later the species could spread thanks to the introduction of male specimens.
